Oxford - Not Under Water

Hello from Oxford!

You have probably thought about me the last few days?! I hope you did not worry too much (or were you hoping I'd sit on an island forever?

Yes, there was a lot of rain in the south of England and we did see some flooding but the media exaggerated a bit. Oxford was notcompletely under water.

Now the sun is shining and we are enjoying ourselves. Tonight there will be a "Strawberries and Champagne" reception in the Master's Garden, a small but very beautiful garden in Christ Church College.
Have a good time! Is it hot in Germany?

Hi again!

As I promised our Ireland tour.

I hope the picture can help you a little bit!

Swords
Kilkenny
Kenmare
Killorglin
Kilkee
Kinvarra
Clifden
Shannonbridge (near)
Swords
Dublin

Swords

We flew to Dublin and got our rented car at the airport. 10 minutes away was our first overnight stay in Swords.

Kilkenny

We took the Motorway to the Wicklow Mountains. On the way we had some little problems to find the right streets, so we ask some nice Irish people and they helped us.
Our first goal was Glendaloug. There is a round tower and an old church. We had a 2 hours walk there. After that we drove over the village Hollywood to Kilkenny, it started to rain and ended at the next noon. So we visited some Pubs in the evening.

Kenmare

After Breakfast we started to the Rock of Cashel. There is a cathedral, a chapel and the St. Patricks cross. We heard a tour from a guide, but it was very difficult to understand, because he spoke technical jargon. In the afternoon we had a stop in Killarney. It started to rain again and we drove to Kenmare were we found a B&B.

Killorglin

The weather was good in the morning and we started to the Ring of Beara, is a peninsula.
We would like to go to the Dursey Island in the south, but the cable car there had a break and we had a walk on the cliffs. At our way back we saw three sharks in the water. I was excited! We drove back over the Healy Pass. You have a really beautiful nature there and sheeps are walking in the middle of the street. On this day we found and accommodation in Killorglin. It’s a village with many old people, so we had a little room party after Dinner.

Kilkee

At our 5th day we visited the peninsula Dingle. There are many beautiful beaches with white sand and seashells. I went swimming, but only 10 minutes, the water was only 16 degrees! After 1 hour drive we took the ferry from Tarbet to Killmer and we saw a dolphin. The overnight stay on this day was in Kilkee. This is my favourite village! We eate some fish and met very nice people.

Kinvarra

After a very good breakfast, we had a walk at the Cliffs of Kilkee. They are similar as the Cliffs of Moher, but not so much tourism. Than we visited the Aillwee Cave and had a walk in the Burren. In Kinvarra we found a B&B at a special women. She was so funny! We went out for Dinner and had pasta with salmon and celebrated my birthday in a Pub, where we met nice and funny people with good live music.

Clifden

On this day, we drove to the Connemara National Park. We hike on the Diamond Hill there. The landscape is breathless. On this tour of 7 km we had every possible weather. Sunny, stormy and rainy. In the evening we stayed in Clifden.

Near Shannonbridge

The 8th day. Our way brought us to Galway, were we was shopping and had a look at the town. After that we visited the Athenry Castle. We search a B&B 2 hours long and we found one. The people were very nice and we looked in the evening the movie 4 weddings and 1 funeral with Hugh Grant.

Swords again

After delicious pancakes we started our way to the Birr Castle. There is a interesting museum with a beautiful garden. In the afternoon we visited our second castle for this day, Trim. In the earlier days it was the biggest town of Ireland. A part of the movie Braveheart with Mel Gibson was filmed there. We stayed overnight in Swords again.

Dublin

Our last two days. The tour was over and we brought our Corsa back and take the bus to Dublin. After we found our hotel we visited the Trinity College, the House of Lords, the Grafton Street, the Stephans Green and the National Libarary. Than we took a little break.
In the Evening we had Dinner and visited the Temple Bar. Very good place to make Party!
On the second day in Dublin, we went shopping in the morning in the Henry Street. Visited the Dublin Castle, the Christ Church Cahedral and the St. Patricks Cathedral. In the afternoon we visited the Guiness Store House and the day was as good as over.
At the next morning we flew back home!

I hope all of you like my story.

And perhaps some of you will find the way to Ireland also.

It is so nice! *g*

Learning techniques

STICK TO SEVEN
As our short-term memory is limited in the number of things that it can hold, it's best to limit the number of words you try to learn at one time. A common rule is that a person can best remember seven things.

UK Burger news

McDonalds, with 1,300 restaurants in Britain, and Burger King, with 650, may not yet need to worry about their corporate hold on the UK. But if all goes to plan, a chain from New Zealand could challenge them. Gourmet Burger Kitchen (GBK), founded by three New Zealanders, is taking London by storm. "GBK restaurants have been profitable from day one," CEO Paul Campbell told The New Zealand Herald. "And this has been the case both inside and outside Greater London." GBK's new owners have raised enough money to open several restaurants in touristy locations such as St. Paul's and Covent Garden. Next up are Notting Hill and the university town of Cambridge. Menu items such as the egg, cheese and pineapple Kiwiburger are fast becoming favourites, a trend that pushed McDonalds to offer its own gourmet burger, the Deluxe, early this summer.

Men 'no less chatty than women'

The common notion that women are the more talkative sex has been dispelled by scientists in the US.
Researchers who bugged 400 students to log their chats found little difference in word count between the sexes.

The University of Arizona study, in Science, conflicts with previous US research suggesting women talk almost three times as much as men.
